TMS - The Movie Source #1-1
26 Aug 2002
1. Well it has been along week for TMS with all the hacking problems last week followed by some of us having to learn quickly how to operate with out Services. We are still un secure in our distro channel #tms. The plan right now is bots inside #tms and serving outside to other channels from a hidden, invite only channel and hopefully leaving each fserver unexposed by having a bot serve for you. FSERVERS serve the bot that serves the visitor. Fingers crossed probably not this week finished either. No other movie source is secure yet either. We will be the first!
2. Secondly we started serving on LaserNet in Holland yesterday and are maintaining a registered #tms and #movie-heaven there. Basically a mirror can be accomplished if you send this in a music channel /server -m lasernet.serveirc.com. This will open a second net for you and just set new triggers in those channels. A third network to be named soon .Right now TMS-Zach (zach5) and TMS-Bibo are serving in the channel and all of you please hook up. We are recruiting in there and hope to add Laser net TMSs soon. Support it and soon all of us will benefit from better distribution as we assign more folks to distro work as FSERVERS pick up on both networks. Two new members TMS-Blade and TMS-Xplod37 gave it a try too and I will tell you more about them in a minute.
3. We finally will be getting a ripping crew. Yes ripping, real TMS RIPS not leeches from TMD-Moviez as far as the DVD RIPS go. We dont have the ability to rip new movies at the theater this way however, new to a rental store is now capable to be copied and distributed with TMS on it. Blade and Xplod37 have this mission and I trust they and Bibo will be able to get us a good program in time. Anyone want to learn how to rip get in touch with Blade and Xplod37.
4. TMS-Bibo is in charge 100% of getting new additions out to you. Improvements in Distro will continue to take place. Biggest issue is finding you online to get your copies. So idle and receive. Basically everyone of us TMS members have the responsibility to receive a movie and send to two TMS members before serving it to the public. Once the distro channel is secure dedicated servers will be there for TMS members to pull whatever they need.
5. TMS-Zach is sort of our jack of all trades. He has a lot of scripting experience and is a welcome addition to the team after 3 weeks of asking him to be a TMS member with our nick name. He has done some leeching , worked with bots and shells and will be a all around asset to the team. Have questions about Invision ask him. Zach does a hell of a lot of serving too and was the top FSERVER for the week.
6. NEW MOVIES THIS WEEK: Blue Crush, The Good Girl and The Adventures of Pluto Nash. New DVD releases have not been made available to me yet.
7. The team engineer is DJ-2000 or TMS-2000 who hails from Canada he brings us a wealth of expertise and most of the new ghee wiz stuff you see appearing will have his effort all over it. We are tabling some good ideas right now you will be surprised if and when they are pulled off. I have my fingers crossed !
The Ongoing Project is to connect us to several networks simultaneously and watch us grow. One idea is to have bot do a kazaa search by putting trigger !kazaa in channel and link us to downloading in channel. Yes we want to leech there too. If this works then !bearshare etc are possible and a final !mega search searcing every possible sharing resource. Keep up the good work Barrie!
8. Time to talk about organizing your files you serve. We need a system first of all two directories one for new theater releases, and one for new dvd rips and a third for your personal library. Every movie in a file by itself on the folder write if DIVX is required and put ok if you have personally watched it. Dont serve bad movies, pull them off your server. Another thing dont change file names if we have a better cam or tsr then what was released we will be able to tell you the file name to replace with. there are right now three or four different Signs movies on our servers and not all of them are as good as others or that the part two starts at the same place. Dont change file names and make sure your part one has the same filename for both parts in the same folder. These are not orders just common sense since many of you are new to this stuff-ok!!! I am only trying to help you and always will.
9. TIP OF THE WEEK: Is IT THE Player or THE Codec? TMS-Bread<thebreadboyz@yahoo.com <mailto:thebreadboyz@yahoo.com>
One of the things I wanted to do with TMS-The Movie Source is create an opportunity where each of us can learn from each other. With that goal in mind I am gonna begin a series on things I learned along the way.
First of all how many times have you gotten a movie ; waited hours to days to wait for it to finish and you pop it in your favorite player and it does not play. More then once right!
Well as we moved on and collected movies we kept running into the same problem. Thinking back I have probably thrown away hundreds that initially wont play. But many of them do and it is what we do and know that makes them work.
It all starts from the initial compression of the video and over the years I have seen to many formats come, go and even improve in time. These are my ways to approaching the video dont play situation.
First of all I only use and keep two players the first is Windows media Player why because its free and well supported by Microsoft. Second I use my copy of Divx 5.0 <http://www.divx.com/>. But the most important thing is keeping my codecs up to date. I keep up with two sets of codecs the first is the Nimo Codec pack and the second is angel potion <smr stuff usually>. Guess what these four and I almost always can view , emulate and burn most anything. Once these codec packs are installed I just operate the players and let the codecs do the work. Install and forget, and I like that.
So if you are having a problem with a downloaded video do my test of four:
1>Install Nimo Codec Pack
2> Install Angel Potion
3. Open in Windows Media Player
4. Open in Divx
How much will this all set you back nothing each of them are supported for free and on the web.
The Nimo Codec pack handles 13 different codecs: <http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/>
Angel Potion is quite boot leg and the servers handling change often try searching <http://www.google.com/>
10. A Short Note from TMS-Angicam- I will post your questions you email to me to the group too. Share our ability to help each other and Ripping crew send us some tips!
Its nice to hear the improvement that's going on and it looks like we are getting there. Also the tips are very useful as I have a lot of things to learn. Keep it coming. I'm still working on the movies and would like to produce the latest ones that are popular in the UK. Learning how to rip sounds very handy as there are new releases coming out (another thing to add on my agenda). Just bear in mind that I am just at the learning stage. I want also learn about, I think it's called a bot, Im not sure. Using the option "/msg WC-DCC57 xdcc send #x". Can you help on that? Anyway, I hope I hear from you soon.
Angicam angicam@hotmail.com <mailto:angicam@hotmail.com> has actually two questions here.
The first is what is a bot. A bot is a small script installed on a shell from another computer. It can handle tasks for us like running a channel and its security or even a trivia game or tells us the weather anywhere or even the news. Bots are given scripts that we can access and use. Right now the TMS Bot is not that bright and my fault really I have not done much with the bot nor gave it special scripts to become more useful.
The second question involves the use of Xdcc another form of serving that zach introduced this week. But its not /msg its /ctcp WC-DCC57 xdcc send #x". And all you do is copy and paste the ctcp line and add the pack number in place of the # and you get the movie you want. Make sure to dcccallow from the sender prior and you get the movie.
Example: /CTCP TMS-Zach XDCC SEND # 22 will send the new part one of Blue Crush one of our newest movies.
11. Message FROM TMS-Bibo: The Chief Of Distribution
I wanted to take this oppurtunity to introduce myself and give an update as the the area of scouting, A scout is someone who for whatever reason can't serve 24/7 or computer is unstable (like mine), or their parents wont let them, etc. The three primary scouts or involved with distro are:
TMS-angiecam
TMS-explod37
TMS-blade
They each are members of the scouting team. and I would like to thank them for their help in this. between us we now have 9 of the top ten movies running. with more coming. This list is a help guide movies are being added all the time to our fservers:
1. 'XXX,,' $46.0 million -bibo, bread, zach
2. 'Signs,,' $30.0 million-bibo, bread, zach
3. 'Spy Kids 2,' $17.0 million-bibo,zach
4. 'Austin Powers in Goldmember,' $13.1 million-bibo, bread, zach, angicam
5. "Blood Work," $7.2 million-bibo, bread,
6. "The Master of Disguise," $5.1 million bibo
7. "Road to Perdition," $4.0 million-bread, blade
8. (tie) "Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat," $3.2 million
8. (tie) 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding,' $3.2 million in progress blade
10. 'Stuart Little 2,' $2.7 million-bread, angicam, zach
Some are new to invision, and like we all did are experiencing some problems with setting up
the servers to run like they are supposed to. any help you can give them would be appreciated.
Suggestions:
a. dedicated servers, check the distro channels for the scouts for priority downloads
b. If you are using XP or win 2000 use the backup utility to backup your working invision.
saves time in case your copy of invision gets corrupted or hacked.
c. Any requests for older movies/cult films will be taken into account. Be aware that they are harder to find. TMS-Bibo <garedjax2@aol.com <mailto:garedjax2@aol.com>>
